Mission Statement

Open Satellite is a contemporary art exhibition hall for the Seattle metropolitan area. The residency-based program provides an opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists from outside the region to work for an extended period to create large-scale artwork in any medium. Exhibitions are staged four times annually with every fifth show focused on architecture as a critical position.

How it Works

Open Satellite’s staff and advisors invite regional curators to select and curate work by national and international artists who have received limited exposure in the Pacific Northwest. Program artists and architects reside in an apartment in the building – a mixed-use high rise in downtown Bellevue, WA – and for the first month of the residency, have 24-hour access to the exhibition hall, which serves as a temporary studio. The work completed during this period, including an editioned artwork created for Open Satellite by each artist, is on view to the public for the remainder of the three-month residency.

Founded in 2007 by Su Development, Open Satellite is committed to providing a forum for contemporary art, design, architecture and performing arts. Open Satellite collaborates with local artists, educators and community groups to stage ongoing public programs that support the core residency program.
